Sheri Neshiem Named Vice Chancellor and Chief Human Resources Officer at UMass Amherst

Sheri Neshiem has been appointed Vice Chancellor and Chief Human Resources Officer at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The announcement was made by Chancellor Javier Reyes following a national search.
Neshiem comes to UMass Amherst with over 30 years of human resources experience in higher education and government. Currently, she serves as Assistant Vice President for Human Resources at the University of South Florida. She begins her position at UMass on July 1.
Chancellor Reyes said, “Sheri Neshiem is a proven HR leader whose strategic initiatives have advanced organizational growth, employee engagement and operational excellence. Her experience in talent recruitment, development and retention will greatly strengthen our efforts to build high-performing teams that support our mission. I am very excited that Sheri will be joining our campus leadership team.”
Neshiem said, “I understand the unique challenges and opportunities in higher education, and I am passionate about creating an inclusive environment that values all members of our community. To be successful, it is essential to emphasize relationships, open communication, transparency and collaboration. I’m eager to begin a partnership with Chancellor Reyes and the entire UMass community.”
Hailing originally from Norwich, Conn., Neshiem is thrilled to return to her New England roots. Her experience includes six years at the University of South Florida as well as previous leadership roles at Saint Leo University and Argosy University System. Neshiem is also a U.S. Air Force veteran and current Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserves. She earned her bachelor’s degree in management studies from the University of Maryland University College, Asian Division, in Tokyo, and her master’s Degree in Management from Troy University in Alabama.
