Engineering plays a unique and critical role in preparing a workforce skilled to meet the emerging demands of applying AI in real-world settings—bridging the gap between theoretical AI research and practical implementation.

Our college-wide  collaborative AI Engineering Graduate Certificate equips students with a strong foundation of practical, current skills in AI Engineering to meet today's workforce needs and prepares them to efficiently navigate and adapt to the rapidly evolving field.

You must be registered at UMass Amherst as a graduate student or a  non-degree graduate student before completing the Intention to Complete the AI Engineering Graduate Certificate form. We typically require that you have sufficient background in probability and statistics, multivariate calculus, and programming (Python or R). Background in Linear Algebra is preferred but not required.  Acceptance into the certificate program does not automatically qualify a student for any of the MS or PhD programs in the college, although the student may attempt to join such programs at any time.
