About
Our goal is to encourage students and help them succeed academically while thriving and growing as individuals.
The goal of the UMass Amherst College of Engineering Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is to support the recruitment, retention, and success of a diverse body of Engineering students that includes students of color, women, first-generation, LGBTQIA+, transfer, international, and Pell-eligible students. Because DEI staff members are trained engineers, they are able to provide a nuanced understanding of the challenges that Engineering students face.

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion operates out of the Community, Equity, and Inclusion Hub. The Hub is a marquee space of 1,400 square feet that was renovated in fall 2018 and designed to support the College's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The space includes a conference room, multiple webinar facilities, and modular study and group meeting space.

Student organizations, clubs, and societies reflect the diversity of our College and provide opportunities for hands-on projects, professional development, and community service. Participation is a great way connect with peers who share your interests. Get involved!
Our commitment
The College of Engineering is strongly committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We recognize and value the wide range of voices and perspectives of our community and expect all members to treat each other with mutual respect and civility.
ASEE recognition
The College of Engineering Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion has been awarded Bronze Level Exemplar status by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Diversity Recognition Program. This is currently the highest level issued by the ASEE.
In the spotlight
During her time at UMass, Sade Luwoye majored in Electrical Engineering and was the president of the student chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers. She went on to earn a master's degree in Systems Engineering from George Washington University. Now, in addition to her job at L3Harris Technologies, Luwoye hosts the podcast Win in STEM.
