UMass IT Kicks Off Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2023

This October marks the 20th Cybersecurity Awareness Month (CSAM). To kick off CSAM here on campus, UMass Amherst Information Technology (UMass IT) is sharing data security tips and resources with the campus community.
“For this year’s CSAM, our focus is on data protection,” says Matthew Dalton, Chief Information Security Officer at UMass Amherst. “Last year, UMass Amherst blocked an average of 65 million cyber threats per day. We’re launching this campaign to raise awareness on campus and encourage everyone to take action to protect their data when online or using connected devices.”
UMass IT has launched the month-long cybersecurity awareness campaign in collaboration with campus partners, including the Office of Research and Engagement and Student Affairs and Campus Life. Tips and resources are also being shared through social media, campus-wide digital signage, and the UMass IT website.
Weekly themes through the month of October include:
- Keeping your online browsing secure
- How to securely store your data
- Data disposal tips and tricks
- Avoiding Fake Job Scams
