Facilities and Campus Services has announced a number of summer construction projects that may impact pedestrian walkways, roadways and parking lots on campus starting the week of May 19. Please take care to obey posted detours when driving or walking through these areas.

Updates to this information will be posted on the FCS website.

North Energy Exchange Center (NEEC) / Thermal Energy Storage (TES)

From May 19 through early September, trench work to connect the NEEC to the Sustainable Engineering Labs will take place, starting from between E-Lab and E-Lab II and progressing south across Natural Resources Rd. to Lot 65 near Paige Lab (both lots, north and south of Paige). Impacts will include:

  • Fencing and signs marking pedestrian detours will be in place between ELab and ELab II from May 19 until late June; signs marking routes for safe egress will be posted within each building.

  • One-lane traffic on Natural Resources Rd. north of the intersection with Holdsworth Way (late June/early July)

From May 19 until approximately June 20, excavation will also take place along North Service Dr. to connect the Lot 31 geothermal well field to the TES site. The northernmost section of North Service will remain closed; the entrance to Lot 45 from North Service will be closed starting May 27, please use entrance off Holdsworth Way.

Project Manager: Ted Mendoza

Sustainable Engineering Laboratories (SEL)

Ongoing construction at the SEL site will result in the following impacts to pedestrian traffic:

  • Starting May 21, sidewalks between Draper and Stockbridge Hall will be closed, with pedestrian traffic rerouted south of Stockbridge.

  • From June 6 until mid-August, the pedestrian walkway between Draper and Marcus will be closed, with pedestrian traffic rerouted around east side of Goessmann.

Project Manager: Blair Nahm

Hicks Renovation

Beginning June 2, renovations to Curry Hicks Cage will result in pedestrian traffic between Hicks and Middlesex to be rerouted behind Munson Hall. Lot 64 on the west and north of Hicks will also be closed for the summer. The project is slated to be completed by Spring 2026.

Project Manager: Nick Macy

Other projects of note:

  • Campus Center restrooms on the second floor, adjacent to the Blue Wall, will be closed for renovations from May 19 through August 15.

  • Preparations for renovation of Flint Laboratory will take place starting in late June, including the establishment of fencing and staging areas. Some short-term closure of sidewalks or interruptions to vehicle traffic near the Campus Center Garage may occur in conjunction with this work.

  • Work on sidewalks on Governor’s Drive will be taking place in the area between Lot 68 and E. Lab Service Dr. in June/July.
