Softball Head Coach Kristi Stefanoni Earns Contract Extension
After a 35-win campaign and being named 2018 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year, softball head coach Kristi Stefanoni has been given a three-year contract extension, through May 31, 2021.
Announcing the extension, director of athletics Ryan Bamford said, “Kristi’s pride and care for our softball program is widely recognized in our department. She has brought our storied softball program back to a championship level and has set us up for continued success in future years. I am pleased she will continue to lead our Minutewomen as we compete for league championships and regain national prominence.”
Entering her sixth-year as head coach of the softball program, Stefanoni sports a 121-112-1 record. The upcoming spring will mark her 17th overall with the Minutewomen as a student-athlete and member of the coaching staff.
This past spring, she led the Minutewomen to an impressive 35-14 overall record, including a 21-0 mark in Atlantic 10 games.
The Minutewomen have finished no lower than third in the A-10 standings over the past three seasons and won the regular-season title last year. Stefanoni has led the team to an average of 30 wins in each of those campaigns.
In Stefanoni’s 13 seasons on the UMass Amhest staff, the Minutewomen won six Atlantic 10 championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament five times. In her four years as a player, the team went 151-64-1 (.701) with three A-10 Championships and four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Super Regional berth in 2006.
