Facilities and Campus Services Announces Summer Construction Projects
Following Commencement Weekend, Facilities and Campus Services will undertake a number of summer construction projects that may impact pedestrian walkways, roadways and parking lots on campus, including those listed below.
Campus Police will be on deployed as needed to assist with pedestrian and vehicle detours; please obey all posted signs when driving or walking through these areas.
Updates to this information will be posted on the FCS website.
Major Paving Projects (Project Manager: James Hunter)
Paving will be taking place at multiple locations around campus, most notably on Presidents Drive and also on lower Campus Center Way between Commonwealth Avenue and the Campus Garage entrance. Sections of both roadways will be reduced to one lane at various intervals throughout the summer along with closures or detours of adjacent sidewalks. Other summer paving projects will include replacement of sidewalks on Thatcher Way east of Durfee Garden and paving of the lot and sidewalks on the east side of Van Meter.
Garage Resurfacing (Project Manager: C. Kim Jaworski-Bruschi)
Starting in early June, sections of the Campus Center Garage will be closed at various times during the summer to allow for resurfacing of the parking decks and stairwells.
Flint Electrical Work (Project Manager: Stephen Lobik)
Underground utility work for the Flint Laboratory renovation will require the closure of the upper portion of Campus Center Way and a detour for vehicles exiting the Campus Center Garage for approximately 2 days in mid-June.
Other projects of note:
- Demolition of the Art Barn and Agricultural Engineering Annexes A and B, requiring closure of the adjacent section of Natural Resources Way (late May - until approximately mid-June).
- Construction related to installation of a photovoltaic canopy over Lot 28 across from the Central Heating Plant (late June).
- Construction on the northeast side of the Student Union, including new sidewalk installation and repairs to the exterior of the Blue Wall atrium (July).
- Continued construction of the new roundabout at the University Dr. and Amity St. intersection by Amherst DPW requiring short-term closures of certain sections (ongoing).
