Sven Kube, a visiting researcher from Coastal Carolina University, will host an Instagram Live on June 12 presented by the DEFA Film Library, during which he will discuss his research and the Volkmar Andrä Collection, an extensive collection of East German music.

Kube, an assistant professor of contemporary history at CCU who was awarded the UMass Amherst Special Collections & University Archives (SCUA) Research Center Kenneth R. Feinberg fellowship, is at UMass for a one-month stay until mid-June while he conducts research for his book project, which examines the trade of recorded music between capitalist and communist countries during the Cold War. Funds for his visiting fellowship were matched by the DEFA Film Library.

While at UMass, Kube is also processing the Andrä Collection, which was donated to SCUA in 2021 by Andrä, a former producer at the GDR’s record enterprise VEB Deutsche Schallplatten. The unique collection includes vinyl LPs, CDs and master tapes from several of the company’s labels including Amiga, Eterna, Litera and Schola.
