Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
Build on your skills for design, problem solving, and manufacturing as a Mechanical Engineering student at UMass Amherst. Our curriculum is diverse because mechanical engineering is central to so many modern industries, from aerospace to air conditioning and power systems to transportation.
As a Mechanical Engineering student at UMass, you will undertake hands-on projects that address real-world problems, including through your senior capstone design project and within the MIE Innovation Shop. You will receive mentoring from award-winning faculty advisors, and annual career fairs will provide you with the opportunity to network with local and national companies for internships, co-ops, and full-time jobs.
Our graduates embark on careers in industry, government, management, consulting, and academic organizations, working on transportation systems, drinking water and wastewater treatment systems, buildings, bridges, tunnels, dams, and wind energy systems.
Students have the opportunity to earn a combined BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering through our 4+1 program. We also offer an Engineering Management minor and a Materials Engineering undergraduate certificate.
