Steward - Objective 2

Objective: Continually improve school infrastructure to increase efficiency and mitigate environmental impacts.

Key Performance Indicators:

• Opening of the SPHHS HUB, spring 2026
• Classroom, office, and research space utilization rates
• FTE per square footage for office space
• Deferred maintenance costs to the school
• Improvement of indoor environmental quality in existing buildings

Strategy 1: Optimize space utilization throughout the school.

Action Steps:

• Manage classroom, lab, office, and meeting room usage across all departments to reduce underutilized spaces.
  Promote shared spaces.

Strategy 2: Ensure physical infrastructure supports the evolving needs of the School.

Action Steps:

• Work with UMass Facilities and Campus Services to address deferred maintenance and indoor environmental quality.

Strategy 3: Reduce the negative environmental impact of our campus operations and promote sustainable practices.

Action Steps:

• Enhance the use of common spaces for idea exchange among faculty and with industry, including Mount Ida.
