The Office of Faculty Development (OFD) has completed its release of a series of 10 thematic reports published throughout the spring 2025 semester that detail findings from the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE) faculty job satisfaction survey deployed in spring 2024.

Topics of the COACHE 2024 Survey Reports include: the department; appreciation and recognition; shared governance and institutional leadership; tenure and promotion; the workplace; teaching; research, scholarly and creative activity; service; interdisciplinary work and collaboration; and mentorship.

Each report details areas of strength and areas for growth for university, as compared to five selected peer institutions, and the reports’ authors also provide recommendations and resources along each thematic area based on the findings in each report. The thematic reports are also accompanied by COACHE Dashboards created by the Office of Assessment, Survey, and Effectiveness Research (ASER) that can be viewed on the Flagship Analytics website, available to faculty and staff who have attended a University Analytics and Institutional Research (UAIR) Flagship Analytics training session.

“I encourage our campus community to engage with this collection of reports and to start a dialogue in their corners of the university to celebrate our strengths and address areas of concern among our faculty,” shares Angela de Oliveira, associate provost for faculty development. “I am grateful for the collaborative work of our COACHE Steering Committee, the OFD team and the ASER team to share these results with our community. We are eager to continue conversations and momentum on campus to ensure our faculty can thrive at UMass Amherst.”

In the upcoming 2025-26 academic year, OFD plans to share special focus reports on the experiences of faculty of color, non-tenure-track faculty and gender differences on campus.
