PhD in Biomedical Engineering
The UMass Biomedical Engineering (BME) PhD program offers graduate students an opportunity to engage in cutting edge research at the intersection of engineering, medicine, and biomedicine. We work in close collaboration with colleagues in the Institute for Applied Life Sciences (IALS) and the UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester.
Research labs in the BME department cover the following broadly defined areas:
- Bioinstrumentation, sensors, and computation
- Biomechanics and multiscale physiology
- Biomaterials and therapeutic delivery
To apply to the BME PhD program, a Master's degree is not required. Prospective students with a Bachelor's degree in BME or a related field can apply directly to the BME PhD program. Prospective students are strongly encouraged to contact core or adjunct faculty members in BME to identify a primary research advisor before applying to the PhD program.
