ABET Accreditation: Biomedical Engineering

Accreditation 

The Bachelor of Science degree program in Biomedical Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.

Program Educational Objectives

The Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) of the Biomedical Engineering program are: 

  1. Successfully engage in their chosen career by applying their scientific knowledge and technical skills, and demonstrate quantitative, analytical, and systems approach in solving problems in their professional practice.
  2. Apply non-technical skills, such as critical and innovative thinking, entrepreneurial mindset, adaptability, self-motivation, teamwork, effective documentation of results, management skills, and effective communication, to identify and solve problems in their chosen professional field.
  3. Engage in life-long learning and demonstrate leadership and ethics in their professional practice with involvement in the community and professional organizations, and conduct themselves with the highest professional integrity.
  4. Understand and serve the needs of their local, national, and global communities.
  5. Practice behaviors that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and the establishment of racial, social, and environmental justice.

Student Outcomes

The student outcomes for the Biomedical Engineering (BME) programs are:

  1. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
  2. an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
  3. an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  4. an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
  5. an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
  6. an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
  7. an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
