According to its website, “The Society of Interventional Radiology is a nonprofit, professional medical society representing more than 8,000 practicing interventional-radiology physicians, trainees, students, scientists, and clinical associates dedicated to improving patient care through the limitless potential of image-guided therapies.”

Per the SIR website, the prestigious status of SIR Fellow is achieved by only 15 percent of eligible SIR members and is bestowed on those “who have demonstrated excellence in interventional radiology by virtue of research and published works, teaching, and leadership within the field, along with contributions and involvement within the society.”

Srimathveeravalli, who is also an adjunct in the UMass Amherst Biomedical Engineering Department and director of the Center for Personalized Health Monitoring, heads the Srimathveeravalli Research Group, which develops new technologies for image-guided therapy, with specific focus on using electric fields for focal tumor ablation and drug delivery. His research on these topics has generated at least 57 publications, 12 patents/applications, and 35 conference presentations since 2019.

Srimathveeravalli has actively contributed to the mission of SIR over the past 12 years by serving on committees for research, grants, and education, and on the Foundation of Society of Interventional Radiology as a board member. He has organized several workshops and special programs at annual meetings, with special focus on activities and organization for scientist-members.

Srimathveeravalli is a prior recipient of the SIR Ernest Ring award in 2016, and research from his group has garnered featured abstracts and best poster- and abstract-of-the-year recognition at past annual meetings. (April 2025)
