Transitioning rapidly away from fossil fuels presents a massive opportunity to design and choose equitable pathways to a net-zero energy system. We believe this transformation can lead to new industries, job creation, and broadly shared benefits for all members of society. Our researchers tackle the complex problems arising from energy transition, using their expertise in physical and life sciences, engineering, social sciences, and the humanities.

Our mission is to enable a fast and fair transition to a decarbonized energy system in the United States. We conduct stakeholder-engaged research at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, with a dual focus on technology systems and human systems.
