Seven College of Engineering students have received awards and scholarships from the UMass Amherst Alumni Association, including one Greater Boston Alumni Network Scholarship, one Senior Leadership Award, and five William F. Field Alumni Scholars awards.
Peace Idahor of the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department collected a $1,000 Greater Boston Alumni Network (GBAN) Scholarship, which was established by the GBAN to assist with the educational pursuits of students from Boston high schools. Recipients demonstrate diverse records of achievement in academics, leadership, and are student role models.
Alanna Joachim of the Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Department garnered a $500 Senior Leadership Award. The Senior Leadership Award recognizes graduating seniors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to the UMass Amherst community. Award recipients have distinguished themselves through important contributions to student organizations, campus jobs, academic excellence, and community service.
The College of Engineering also had five William F. Field Alumni Scholars: Julia Keefe of the CEE department, Heta Shah of the ECE department, Oshiokhai Oyageshio of the Chemical Engineering Department, Shivani Ray of the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department, and Brian Simoes of the Biomedical Engineering Department.
The William F. Field Alumni Scholar Awards of $750 apiece were established in 1976 to recognize and honor third-year students for their academic achievements at UMass Amherst. The program was named in honor of William F. Field, the university’s first Dean of Students, for his outstanding support of academic excellence and his personal commitment to bringing out the best in every student.
Each year, the Alumni Association presents more than 100 scholarships and awards totaling over $100,000 to UMass Amherst students. (May 2022)
