The College of Engineering Class of 2024 was honored with commencement ceremonies and activities on Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18. Below are just some of the highlights from the weekend of festivities.
On Friday, the campus-wide UMass Amherst Graduate Commencement Ceremony was held in McGuirk Alumni Stadium. During the ceremony, graduating Industrial Engineering and Operations Research PhD student Paola Pimentel Furlanetto was honored with the Commitment to Diversity Award.
On Saturday morning, the campus-wise Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony was held in McGuirk Alumni Stadium. During this ceremony, graduating Mechanical and Industrial Engineering major George Olisedeme-Akpu was honored with a 21st Century Leader Award. In addition, Chemical Engineering Professor Wei Fan and Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Professor David Schmidt were honored as recipients of the 2024 UMass Amherst Distinguished Teaching Award.
The College of Engineering Senior Recognition Ceremony was held on Saturday evening in the Mullins Center, preceded by reception on the Engineering Quad. Isabella MacNaughton, a graduating Biomedical Engineering major, was the student speaker. The ceremony was live-streamed, and a replay of the ceremony can be seen here.
