Chajes Distinguished Lecture

The Chajes Distinguished Lecture (formally know as the History and Heritage Lecture series) was established to celebrate the tremendous contributions of Professor Alexander Chajes, to the University of Massachusetts and the profession of civil engineering. Professor Chajes served for many decades as a professor of structural engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, compiling a remarkable record of scholarly publication and teaching excellence. He believed that students of must understand the work of those who laid the foundation for the modern profession. This endowed fund was established on the occasion of his retirement.
