CTL Offering Reading Circles and Discussion Group on Teaching in the Age of AI

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) has announced informative and group discussion options for UMass Amherst faculty members interested in artificial intelligence in today’s teaching environment.
Faculty members curious about leveraging AI in teaching and course design or looking to understand how AI might enhance course assignments and student learning are invited to explore José Antonio Bowen and C. Edward Watson’s “Teaching with AI: A Practical Guide to a New Era of Human Learning,” offered in two reading circles starting Feb. 7.
Teaching with AI: A Faculty Reading Circle will be offered in multiple sessions with in-person and online Zoom options on Wednesdays, starting Feb. 12. The reading circles welcome faculty members at all levels of AI familiarity – from those just beginning to consider its implications to those already experimenting with GenAI in their teaching. Registration for the reading circles can be completed here.
The GenAI Discussion Group re-starts for the spring semester on Friday, Feb. 7, from noon-1 p.m. with “Is This Cheating? Rethinking Academic Honesty with Generative AI,” an interactive online session that will move beyond simple pro/con debates to explore the nuanced relationship between academic integrity and AI in education. The meeting will combine experiential learning with collaborative discussion to examine assumptions about knowledge production, authorship and creativity. Registration for the discussion group can be completed here.
