CoJourn for Graduate Students Starts in January

Back in May 2021, The Graduate School endorsed the Statement of Principles and Commitments to Support Graduate Student Mental Health and Well-being. As part of its commitment to supporting graduate student well-being, The Graduate School is bringing CoJourn, a 12-week peer-to-peer support program to UMass Amherst graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.

CoJourn is a personal growth and goal achievement program that trains pairs of people to partner up for more external accountability, connection, and support as they go after their big goals and dreams. The CoJourn model was developed by UMass Amherst alumna Molly Keehn along with Karl Henricksen. Participants work with a partner and commit to 30-minutes per week of focused support and encouragement. Participants are given some tools and training and then each person sets a series of goals for themselves. Participants have used the program to focus on things like wellness, managing anxiety, connecting with others or tackling procrastination.

Graduate students and postdoctoral scholars who are interested in learning more about the program should visit the CoJourn for Graduate Students website. They can also register to attend an online info session with Molly Keehn on Thursday, Dec. 9 from noon to 1:15 p.m. (a recording will be provided for those who are unable to attend). The CoJourn program will run from Jan. 10 through April 3, 2022.

CoJourn is free for UMass graduate students and postdocs and is sponsored by the Graduate School and the Campus Life and Wellbeing Collaborative.
