John Carchio '21, '26 MS majored in Biomedical Engineering at UMass Amherst, where he developed an interest in prosthetics and orthopedic device design. He currently works at Johnson & Johnson MedTech under the DePuy Synthes Orthopedics company, where he helps develop orthopedic implants that restore mobility for patients worldwide.

Early in his career, Carchio worked in Joint Reconstruction, contributing to engineering solutions that support patients undergoing hip and knee replacement procedures. He now focuses on Spine Orthopedics, supporting the development and launch of technologies addressing complex spinal conditions. His recent work has centered on robotic integration into surgical procedures and advanced additive manufacturing.

Carchio has led major product introductions, implemented lean manufacturing processes, and helped guide the development of young engineers entering the industry. He recently returned to UMass Amherst to pursue and complete a Master of Science in Engineering Management. In his free time, he enjoys being outdoors with loved ones, spending time on the ocean, and exploring the beaches of Cape Cod.
