Computing and cybersecurity
We are developing new high-performance, edge & quantum computing architectures; increasing data security & privacy; and protecting critical cyber-infrastructure.
Faculty research covers topics in integrated circuit design, computer aided design, computer architecture, reconfigurable computing, wireless systems, embedded systems, forensics challenges in networking & communications, privacy, applied cryptography, & beyond. We design quantum processors, integrated cryogenic circuits, and photonics to try to scale up quantum computers based on transmon and trapped ion qubits.
Within the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center, UMass Amherst operates one of the biggest GPU clusters in the nation.
As members of the multi-disciplinary Cybersecurity Institute we are increasing privacy, protecting personal information, thwarting exploitation of the vulnerable, and increasing access to the Internet.
Faculty-led labs include:
- Reconfigurable Computing Group
- Holcomb Lab
- Advanced VLSI Design and Test Group
- UMass⁺ Trapped Ions and Photonics lab
