Registration
Pre-Registration Advising and Course Registration
Because the engineering curriculum is structured and courses are not offered every semester, it is imperative that you meet with your assigned advisor (found under Academics in SPIRE) during the registration period to discuss your progress and review your intended courses for next semester. To ensure you do so, an advising (or RAC) hold will prevent you from enrolling in courses. After meeting with your advisor to select courses, enroll in them using SPIRE during your assigned enrollment appointment time.
Registration Advising and Paperwork
Dates and procedures differ in each Engineering department. Click on the link for your current major (again, under Academics on SPIRE) below for information on how to prepare, what to bring, and when/how advising meetings are scheduled and/or will occur:
- Freshmen Engineers or ET Majors (students with Julia or Carolynn listed as their advisor or without an engineering advisor)
- Biomedical Engineering (BME) Majors
- Chemical Engineering (ChE) Majors
- Civil Engineering Majors
- Electrical and Computer (ECE) Engineering Majors
- Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (ME, IE) Majors
Please remember to bring all required materials (specified in links above) to your advising meeting. Before your advising meeting, review your Academic Requirements Report (instructions here) and check your SPIRE Student Center page to confirm your assigned advisor. If you do not have an advisor, or need additional advising materials, check in with the Office of Student Affairs at coeadvising [at] umass [dot] edu.
Visit the Engineering forms, requests and regulations page for help with selecting and correctly using forms, including the Course Selection Form
If You Miss Your Advising Session:
It is extremely important to follow the advising procedures set up in your department. If you do not attend your designated advising session, a HOLD will be placed on your SPIRE account. You will be unable to register for classes and/or make changes to your schedule, until the HOLD is lifted. HOLDs will be lifted at the time and discretion of your departmental Chief Undergraduate Advisor.
Departmental Chief Undergraduate Advisors:
The Chief Undergraduate Advisors/Undergraduate Program Directors are listed here.
