Jessica Schiffman Becomes Deputy Editor of ACS Applied Engineering Materials

Professor Jessica Schiffman of the Chemical Engineering (ChE) Department will serve as the inaugural deputy editor of a new peer-reviewed journal from the American Chemical Society (ACS) called ACS Applied Engineering Materials.
ACS Applied Engineering Materials is an international and interdisciplinary forum devoted to original research covering all aspects of engineered materials. The publication is a new sister journal within the ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces family of journals.
According to the announcement by ACS Publications, “We are pleased to announce the launch of ACS Applied Engineering Materials, guided by ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces Editor-in-Chief Kirk S. Schanze, Ph.D., and Deputy Editor Jessica D. Schiffman, Ph.D.”
As Schiffman explained in the announcement, "ACS Applied Engineering Materials will publish high-quality manuscripts at the intersection of materials science, engineering, physics, mechanics, and chemistry. We look forward to serving as the home for critical insights on how polymers, ceramics, metals, and composites can advance applications in healthcare, extreme environments, environmental remediation, catalysis, and beyond."
"ACS Applied Engineering Materials provides the opportunity for ACS authors to publish topically focused papers in a broad range of engineering applications," said Schanze. "The journal will continue the tradition at ACS Publications for editorial excellence and peer review managed by experienced editors, combined with high-quality technical editing prior to publication."
The new journal’s website has just launched. ACS Applied Engineering Materials began accepting research submissions on June 15th, 2022, and the first full issue will be published in January of 2023.
As head of the ChE’s Schiffman Research Group, Schiffman directs an imaginative team that innovates “green” and bioinspired materials to tackle grand challenges in human health and the environment. As Schiffman has explained, “Our research is interdisciplinary in nature, drawing influences from chemical engineering, materials science, and microbiology.” (July 2022)
