The Riccio College of Engineering, in partnership with the Berthiaume Center for Entrepreneurship, is pleased to sponsor the upcoming UMass Tech Challenge. a competition focused on technology innovation that is open to all UMass students and graduates of the last decade.
Accepted innovators will present their idea or prototype to a panel of judges for the chance to win from a $15,000 prize pool. All student innovators will receive valuable feedback from esteemed experts on their technology ideas and inventions. Winners will be announced at the Berthiaume Center's Innovation Challenge Academy Awards night.

2026 Tech Challenge Important Dates:
- September 8: Applications open
- November 3 at 11:59 p.m.: Applications close
- November 9: Teams notified of selection
- November 12: Required Pitch Camp/Bootcamp for selected teams
- November 17: Tech Challenge 9:00 am -5:00 pm, Old Chapel (teams given presentation slots)
- November 19: Awards Night
Qualifications and Requirements to Compete:
- Applicants must have an idea for an innovative technology advancement or service, regardless of industry.
- Prototypes and business models are welcomed and highly encouraged but not required to apply or compete in the Challenge.
- Presentation slides are required for participation in the pitch.
- MUST Attend the Pitch Camp on 12th November 2026.
