Jack Welch Scholars
Jack Welch Scholars at UMass Amherst receive merit scholarships funded by the GE Foundation. This is a highly competitive award, and recipients are selected as incoming students though the admissions process.
Recipients have demonstrated high standards in academics, social responsibility and leadership. Engineering and management students are given preference.
The award is named in honor of alumnus Jack Welch, who drew upon his UMass undergraduate education in chemical engineering to forge a legendary career as a business leader, serving for two decades as chairman and chief executive officer of General Electric.
