Alexander Chajes Distinguished CEE History and Heritage Lecture
The CEE Annual History and Heritage Lecture series was established to celebrate the tremendous contributions of Professor Alexander Chajes, to the University of Massachusetts and the profession of civil engineering. Professor Chajes served for many decades as a professor of structural engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, compiling a remarkable record of scholarly publication and teaching excellence. The History and Heritage Lecture is reflective of his interest in the topic, and his belief that students of civil & environmental engineering must understand the work of those who laid the foundation for the modern profession. An endowment, which was established on the occasion of his retirement, supports the annual History and Heritage Lecture.
