Engineering and Computing Career Day

Held annually, the Engineering and Computing Career Day at UMass Amherst is hosted by the Riccio College of Engineering, in cooperation with the Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences. While open to all, this day is specifically designed to support the interests of young women in pursuing degrees in engineering and computing. Panelists, speakers, and session leaders throughout the day will primarily be women.

See yourself building solutions that promote progress and can change the world. Hear from engineering professionals in the fields of engineering and computing.  Learn more about what engineering and computer scientists do—and begin to think about your own path.

Who should attend?

  • High school students, especially girls (!), interested in the fields of engineering or computer and information science.
    • All genders are welcome! The day is just geared to empower girls to pursue engineering and computing, fields that are still male dominated.
    • We try and limit to ~10 students per school to make the opportunity available to as many schools as possible!
  • Guidance counselors & teachers
  • Representatives from industry

Highlights of the Day

  • Participate in hands-on engineering and computer science activities
  • See demonstrations of state-of-the-art technology
  • Learn about degree and career opportunities in engineering and computer science
    • Chat about "Why Choose Engineering or Computing?"
    • Hear from industry about what engineers and computer scientists do
    • Hear from UMass Alumna about their experiences as female engineers/computer scientists
  • Network!
    • Meet high school women like you from across the region
    • Meet college students and professors
  • Take an optional tours of engineering & computer science labs
