Student Life

Student Engagement & Leadership (SEL)

Student Engagement & Leadership (SEL) cultivates student learning by providing opportunities for leadership, recreation, connection and engagement in and beyond UMass. These opportunities promote a sense of pride, empowering students to take ownership of their UMass experience in accordance with their values and beliefs.

Sororities & Fraternities

Sorority and Fraternity Life acknowledges the part a sound fraternity and sorority system can play in supporting the overall mission of the University. Therefore, Sorority and Fraternity Life continues to strive to offer its students the means necessary to develop and promote a fraternity and sorority system that complements the greater efforts of the institution. We will assist our students in developing the skills necessary to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the values and standards of the Fraternity Movement and the University.

RSOs

Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs)

The student organizations of today will be able to shape the culture, reputation, and history of the UMass of tomorrow. From cultural showcases to national competitions to local and global service projects, student organizations present an opportunity for students to express passion, reflect on experiences, and understand diverse voices and perspectives.

SGA Executive Branch

Student Governance

The Student Government Association (SGA) manages the Student Affairs Trust Fund -SATF by allocating funding for all RSOs and a number of agencies that provide student services and promote student welfare. Additionally, the SGA provides a vehicle for students to engage in advocating for student needs and shaping the campus community through collaborative involvement with campus committees and programmatic and divisional leadership. The Graduate Student Senate (GSS) serves as the graduate students’ representative body, working and communicating with the University administration, the Board of Trustees, and other governance bodies to present the views of, advocate for and protect the interests of UMass Amherst graduate students.

Craft Center

Center for Student Business (CSB)

The Center for Student Business (CSB) has existed since 1975 to support the community of seven student run, cooperative businesses on the UMass Amherst campus. We provide co-curricular training and education in financial management, cooperative administration, and organizational development. We provide fiscal oversight and act as advocates for the businesses within the university structure. This is a unique program that employs approximately 125 undergraduate students and helps them to build invaluable business and life skills.
