Councils Supporting Student Organizations at UMass
At UMass, we have nine councils dedicated to supporting the diverse needs of our student organizations. Each council caters to specific interests and areas, ensuring all students can find a community that suits them. Here is an overview of the councils and some examples of the groups they support:
Academic Council
This council hosts academic-specific groups, often aligned with students' majors or minors. Examples include:

Advocacy Council
The Advocacy Council supports groups focused on advocating for disenfranchised communities. Examples include:

Arts & Media Council
This council encompasses a wide range of artistic and media-related clubs. Examples include:
- Theatre Guild
- Belly Dance Club

Club Sports Council
Supporting our numerous club sports, this council oversees groups like:
- Club Gymnastics
- Running Club
- Volleyball
- Water Polo

Cultural Council
This council is home to cultural groups that provide a welcoming environment for all students. They host some of the largest events on campus. Examples include:

Recreation Council
A diverse mix of clubs that cover a wide range of interests. Examples include:

Religious and Spiritual Council
This council supports the various faith groups on campus, including Christian, Muslim, Jewish, and Hindu organizations.
Service and Engagement Council
Focused on community engagement and service, this council includes groups such as:
- Habitat for Humanity

Graduate Student Organization Council
Fostering groups for graduate students, this council includes:
- Sociology Graduate Student Association
- Bird Club
