Wind Ensemble to Perform at Annual Saxophone Festival

The UMass Amherst Wind Ensemble will perform a special concert in conjunction with the 36th Annual New England Saxophone Festival and Competition on Saturday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall.

The saxophone festival is hosted annually by the department of music and dance.

Led by Matthew Westgate, director of wind studies, the wind ensemble will perform a number of works that feature the saxophone, including “Northeastern Suiteby faculty member and Guggenheim fellowship winner Felipe Salles, and the New England premiere of Stacy Garrop’s “Quicksilver,” with faculty member Jonathan Hulting-Cohen as alto saxophone soloist.

The program will also include Phillipe Geiss’s “Sax Heroes” featuring the acclaimed saxophone group The Moanin’ Frogs.

Tickets are $10 for the general public, $5 for students, seniors and UMass Amherst employees, and free for UMass students.
