Recent UMass graduate Sebastian Harder handily won a first-place finish at the Harvard University Intercollegiate Transit Bus RoadEo, held June 17 at the Harvard Business School in Cambridge. The invitational event showcases driving skills, safety acumen and grace under pressure through a complex set of obstacles and contortions with a full-sized transit bus on a timed course. Along with teammate Nicholas Spagnolo, the UMass Transit student team beat out teams fielded by host Harvard, Boston College, the University of New Hampshire, Cornell University, Columbia University, the University of Vermont and Stanford University to be crowned the best.

“Sebastian and Nicholas are two of 150 student transit bus drivers who provide safe, friendly and skilled bus and ADA paratransit transit services to nearly 3.7 million riders from UMass and the surrounding communities each year,” says Connie Englert, UMass Amherst director of transportation services. “Earning this top finish is a tribute to the strength, longevity and ‘secret sauce’ that makes UMass Transit one of the most unique and rewarding student jobs at UMass.”
