Registration is now open for the STRIDE and STRIPE Training Workshops for Spring 2026, which will take place from Feb. through April and are available to all faculty and librarians.

The STRIDE (Strategies and Tactics for Recruiting to Improve Diversity and Excellence) and STRIPE (Strategies and Tactics for Retention through Inclusive Promotion Evaluation) Workshops play a crucial role in the university’s mission of achieving excellence in research, teaching and service by attracting and retaining a diverse faculty. To ensure the most diverse applicant pool in all searches, it is essential that departments, schools and colleges actively engage in comprehensive communication, strategically place position advertisements, and carry out targeted outreach efforts – an approach that is vital for bringing approved openings to the immediate attention of the widest and most diverse pool of potential applicants.

The STRIDE and STRIPE workshops offer practical, research-informed strategies for search committees and personnel committees to facilitate an open, fair and inclusive recruitment and retention process.

STRIDE Workshops are scheduled from Feb. 9 - April 7 and focus on improving the faculty search process by addressing implicit biases in the faculty recruitment and retention process and provide strategies to mitigate their effects. Participants will learn how to create effective search advertisements, cultivate diverse candidate pools, conduct successful searches to attract top applicants, manage candidate visits and effectively choose and attract the best candidates.

Completion of STRIDE training is mandatory for faculty and librarians serving on search committees, and it is required for access to candidate files.

STRIPE Workshops run from Feb. 25 - April 14 and concentrate on promoting equity during faculty evaluation and promotion. The training aims to develop strategies and best practices to reduce inequities, counteract unconscious bias, and foster inclusion in faculty promotion and tenure cases.

Each two-hour workshop will consist of interactive small-group discussions led by faculty members and will take place in the Campus Center. The training is valid for three years, after which renewal is required. While STRIDE is required for participation in search committees, STRIPE is strongly encouraged for anyone involved in promotion and tenure decisions.
