Registration Open for Fall 2025 STRIDE and STRIPE Workshops

The Office of the Provost and the Office of Equity and Inclusion invite faculty members and librarians to register for the upcoming STRIDE (Strategies and Tactics for Recruiting to Improve Diversity and Excellence) workshops, taking place weekly from Sept. 10-Nov. 17. These sessions are designed for tenure-track and non-tenure-track faculty, as well as librarians, who are involved in faculty recruitment and search processes.
In parallel, the STRIPE (Strategies and Tactics for Retention through Inclusive Promotion Evaluation) workshops will be offered from Sept. 17-Nov. 13, in collaboration with UMass ADVANCE. These sessions are intended for members of personnel committees at the department, school and college levels.
Both STRIDE and STRIPE are part of UMass Amherst’s broader commitment to academic excellence through inclusive and evidence-based practices. These workshops provide practical, research-informed strategies that support fair, effective and equitable processes in hiring, evaluation and promotion—key components of a thriving academic community.
STRIDE focuses on enhancing the faculty search process through small-group, interactive discussions. Participants will explore best practices for building strong candidate pools, mitigating bias and conducting inclusive and effective searches. Completion of STRIDE training is required for access to candidate files and is mandatory for all faculty and librarians serving on search committees.
STRIPE builds on the foundation of STRIDE by addressing equity in faculty evaluation and promotion. Participants will engage with strategies to ensure fair and consistent review processes, reduce unintentional bias and support the retention of outstanding faculty.
Each workshop is two-hours long, faculty-led and held in the Campus Center. Training is valid for three years, after which renewal is required. While STRIDE is required for search committee participation, STRIPE is strongly encouraged for those involved in promotion and tenure decisions.
These workshops reflect UMass Amherst’s ongoing efforts to foster a scholarly environment where all faculty and librarians can thrive. We encourage your participation in these important professional development opportunities.
