Office of Faculty Development Announces Appointment of Angela C.M. de Oliveira to Associate Provost for Faculty Development

Michelle Budig, senior vice provost for faculty affairs, has announced the appointment of Angela C.M. de Oliveira, professor of resource economics and interim chair of environmental health sciences, to the position of associate provost for faculty development in the Office of Faculty Development. The appointment is effective September 1, 2022 and is the culmination of an internal search that launched in December 2021.

de Oliveira brings demonstrated leadership experience, collaborative skills, and a broad knowledge of and commitment to faculty development. She joined the faculty of the Department of Resource Economics as an Assistant Professor in 2009. She is a behavioral and experimental economist whose research focuses on group decision-making, cooperation and generosity. She uses controlled laboratory techniques to determine the robustness of how individual and societal differences affect behavior. She is currently a Co-PI on a grant from the National Science Foundation examining why people give, and why charities accept, in kind donations. She has published in a number of prestigious journals, including the Journal of Risk and Uncertainty, the Journal of Public Economics, and the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization. She serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Economics and has served on a guest editorial board for Economic Inquiry. In 2014-2016, she was an “Enabling the Next Generation of Hazards and Natural Disasters” Fellow. In 2020, she received the ADVANCE Faculty Peer Mentoring Award for the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

de Oliveira has served in multiple administrative roles on campus. She is currently completing a term as interim chair of the department of environmental health sciences in the School of Public Health and Health Sciences. Prior to her current role, she served as a Chancellor’s Leadership Fellow in the Office of Faculty Development where she worked to undertake research and provide programming and tools to support mid-career faculty. She has also served as a co-director of the Social Science and Environment Network for the Institute for Social Science Research, the undergraduate program director for the Department of Resource Economics, co-director of the Cleve E. Willis Experimental Economics Laboratory, and the Honors Program Director for the department of resource economics. At the national level, she has served as a mentor for the Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession’s mentoring program for junior faculty. At the international level, she served on the advisory board for the Society for the Advancement of Behavioral Economics from 2012-2020.
