Jonathan Tunwar to Lead NSOT, Transitions and Family Programs

Patricia Cardoso-Erase, interim dean of students, has announced that Jonathan Tunwar has been named associate dean of students and director of New Student Orientation, Transitions and Family Programs.

In his new role, Tunwar will provide leadership, oversight, supervision and strategic direction to New Student Orientation, Transitions and Family Programs, and serve as the lead Student Affairs and Campus Life professional to develop, implement and assess orientation and transitions experiences for all entering undergraduate students and their families. 

Tunwar, who joined UMass Amherst in May 2023 as associate dean for parent and family services, previously held positions in orientation and family programs at Virginia Tech and University of Florida. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and a master’s degree from Abilene Christian University and has been an active member of the Association for Orientation, Transition and Retention in Higher Education (NODA), the board of directors of which he was recently elected.
