IT Launches Student Ambassador Program to Provide Peer-to-Peer Support for UMass Students
UMass Amherst Information Technology (UMass IT) has launched a new IT Student Ambassador program to provide peer-to-peer engagement with the UMass student community to increase proactive support, improve technology assistance and serve as a career ladder.
The initial cohort of 10 IT Student Ambassadors, who represent schools and colleges from across campus, will engage with their peers through campus events and social media to promote IT resources, information and initiatives. Ambassadors will also evaluate select IT services and meet with IT staff teams across multiple services to gain insight into development processes and provide direct feedback to improve the student experience.
“The ambassador program provides a gateway to our IT Internship Program and professional opportunities in technology” says Monica Kane, associate vice chancellor for information technology and chief of staff. “Our goal is to engage students from all areas of the University’s academic programs.”
“This is a welcome opportunity for all of IT to engage directly with students and improve their campus experience with technology,” says Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and CIO Chris Misra.
Saloni Khatu, a graduate student pursuing her master’s in computer science, says the ambassadorship offers a unique opportunity to mesh professional experience with her personal interests. “I really enjoy networking and connecting with people,” she says, “and I’m excited at the opportunity to have my own voice heard with subject matter experts.”
