Family Weekend 2018 Set for Oct. 19-21.
Family Weekend returns Oct. 19-21 with a full schedule of informative and entertaining activities, ranging from chocolate classes to tours of the new $100 million Physical Sciences Building. The weekend includes home games for football and men’s soccer, bake shop tours, the Multicolor Mile fundraiser, a parents’ reception, tips for students moving off-campus, a walking tour of campus trees, Graduate Women in STEM laboratory tour, pumpkin decorating and wagon rides and a Haunted UMass tour. Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy will address families on Saturday morning with an update on campus happenings and news. Family Weekend begins at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 and continues at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, with both days packed with events well into the evening. A jazz brunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. highlights Sunday. The complete schedule is online HERE This year’s hour-long Sustainability Bike Tour will explore campus solar projects, LEED-certified green buildings such as the new wood-framed Design Building, the Franklin permaculture gardens, and sustainable student businesses—all while highlighting the new ValleyBike regional bike share system (or bring your own bike). As always, the mix of events includes numerous helpful sessions for families learning to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the college years, including presentations on financial aid, building a community of dignity and respect; renting your first place; and study abroad 101.
