Expert in Geriatric Nursing to Present at Tay Gavin Erickson Lecture Series Feb. 27

The Center for Research on Families will host Abraham Brody, an expert in geriatrics, palliative care and dementia care, as part of its annual Tay Gavin Erickson Lecture Series on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. in Thompson Hall, Room 106.

Brody is the Mathy Mezey Professor of Geriatric Nursing in New York University’s Rory Meyers College of Nursing and associate director of the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing.

In his lecture “‘Living Old’ and Geriatric Nursing,” he will discuss the challenges and opportunities in caring for older adults, drawing on his extensive experience in the intersection of quality care, equity and emerging technologies. He will share his experience in caring for those living with serious illnesses like dementia, the importance of supporting care partners, and insights into the future of geriatrics and palliative care. 

Brody’s research focuses on the complexities and importance of geriatric nursing in modern health care, exploring the development and testing of interventions designed to improve quality of life for aging individuals. He highlights innovative approaches, such as the use of precision health, machine learning and interdisciplinary collaboration.
