Campus Community Coming Together in Response to Public Health Crisis
UMass Amherst faculty and staff are coming together in support of students, each other and the university’s educational mission as the campus community works to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
Operational plans are being adopted that significantly limit the number of employees needed on campus while allowing core operations to continue. The university is fully transitioning to remote learning for the balance of the spring semester, and virtual offices are being set up in their homes by faculty and staff.
Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy, in a video message to the community, said “I want to tell you how proud I am to lead this community of students, faculty and staff. Your patience, resourcefulness, and resilience during this difficult time has been nothing short of inspiring. And as we address new challenges – including the recently announced full transition to remote learning and remote work for non-essential employees – I know that your commitment to our mission and your willingness to help each other - will demonstrate the excellence that defines the University of Massachusetts Amherst.”
To support the significant shift to virtual operations, Human Resources has developed a host of resources and related trainings. These will be updated regularly and can be found online as part of the university’s coronavirus response website.
