The MassURC is a one-day conference at which undergraduate students from across the Commonwealth present research, share knowledge, and learn from fellow students. Hosted by the Commonwealth Honors College at the University of Massachusetts’ flagship Amherst campus, the conference brings together undergraduate students from the twenty-eight public colleges and universities within the Commonwealth.

The 2021 conference was entirely virtual to protect participants during the pandemic; the strengths, creativity, and collaboration of the remote participants made the online conference an exciting success and also offered increased access for any students or faculty for whom travel might present logistical or economic barriers. This year, the MassURC is incorporating the benefits of that model and merging them with the strengths of an on-site experience, taking an exciting step toward a far more accessible, adaptable, and equitable program for all.

The 2022 hybrid conference will offer both in-person and virtual tracks, enabling students and faculty from all Massachusetts colleges and universities to attend in person or participate from their own campus. Students submit a video presentation of their research, engage in “Research in Conversation” sessions, and develop research posters highlighting their work.

The MassURC serves to broaden our understanding of research, showcasing investigation in over sixty subject areas, including biochemistry, history, architecture, marketing, fine art, and sociology. Going beyond observing, conference attendees have a chance to engage with undergraduate students and get an intimate look at the diverse and defining research that Massachusetts students are conducting. The 2022 MassURC will take place Friday, April 22, 2022.
