Faculty of Color Virtual Writing Groups offer social support during pandemic and beyond

The UMass Amherst Faculty Diversity Third Spaces “Write-on-Site” writing groups for faculty of color went virtual when the campus closed due to the pandemic. The program, organized by Amel Ahmed, associate provost for equity & inclusion, has become a space that extends far beyond writing support, offering community during a time of isolation. “The community support was especially helpful due to the isolation from the pandemic—not just for writing, but for general social support,” notes one faculty member. “I met faculty I otherwise probably never would have met, and I started new friendships.” Learn more.
