“My time at UMass has helped me grow as an individual and discover my strengths that I can use for the future. Studying Chemical Engineering has taught me valuable problem solving skills and it has brought me closer to my peers though clubs such as the Society of Women Engineers. I am excited to see where my career takes me and to keep these connections I have made for a lifetime!”

During her time at UMass, Elana conducted research in Dr. Jessica Schiffman's lab—which focuses on using green engineering to design materials that improve human health and the environment—and also served as a conference coordinator for the Society of Women Engineers. Elana will begin a PhD in Chemical Engineering at Northeastern University in the fall of 2024.
