Engineering Senior Celebration: Instructions for Seniors
College of Engineering Senior Recognition Ceremony
Saturday, May 18 at 6:00 p.m.
Mullins Center, UMass Amherst

Doors open at 5pm; Student check-in at tent behind Mullins no later than 5:45pm
Join us before the ceremony under the tent in the Engineering Quad from 3-5pm for light refreshments.
During the college’s celebration, you will receive a university commemorative medal and have your name announced while crossing the stage. Your image, name, and major will also appear on the arena screens. We are working with a system called Marching Order to announce the graduate names.

These instructions are for the College of Engineering event specifically. The main Engineering Commencement Celebration page can be found here. There is no rehearsal for either commencement event.
Graduates with accessibility issues should contact coeadvising [at] umass [dot] edu. Guests should phone Disability Services at 413-545-0892 for access to a parking and tips on navigating between venues.
Cap & gown pickup:
No pre-order is necessary for undergraduates. Caps, gowns, and tassels may be picked up at the:
- The week of Commencement: Monday, May 13 – Thursday, May 16,10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Campus Center 165
- On Commencement Day: Saturday, May 18, 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m., Lot 11 Undergraduate Assembly Area at McGuirk Alumni Stadium
Saturday, May 18: Day-of Instructions
Seniors should check-in at the tent behind the Mullins beginning at 5 pm
Arrive no later than 5:45 p.m.
Wear your cap and gown—tassel should be on the left side (degrees will have been conferred earlier that morning)
Ideally you have your Marching Order QR code on your phone. Find it at: https://umass.marchingorder.com. Make sure to take/use a screenshot, and that you have at least 70% battery life left.
We will also have a personalized hardcopy Marching Order card for each student. You can pick this up at check-in.
There will be a “Help Desk” onsite until 5:45pm to assist those running into difficulties (or who find inaccuracies) with Marching Order
You will be going through Mullins security. Do not bring any personal belongings beyond your cell phone. We will have water available.
Once inside, you should proceed straight to the Mullins Center floor and be seated with your classmates by major.
You can submit celebratory photos for the Mullins screen between now and the start of the ceremony. Just text them to 251-220-1722 (see more info below)
You need to register in advance to view your professional ceremony portrait(s). Visit the registration website and select "Engineering” (see more info below)
Crossing the stage:
When it is time to cross the stage, your major will be instructed to rise.
Before going on stage you will have you photo taken and be handed a commemorative medal to wear.
When is it your turn, your Marching Order QR code will be scanned and you will proceed toward the dean/department head who will offer to shake your hand.
Next, just depart that stage via center stairs where you will be greeted by awaiting department faculty, handed a small gift, and then directed back to your seat.
Before the ceremony, the Mullins screen will feature your pictures
For the hour before the ceremony, the big screen in Mullins will feature pictures submitted by graduates and their families. Starting now, until the procession begins, you can submit your images via text 1-251-220-1722 or by using #UMassEngineering on Instagram or tagging @UMassEngineering on Instagram and/or Facebook. All pictures are welcome, but please keep them appropriate.
Register for your ceremony portrait
Visit the registration website and select ENGINEERING. Then fill out the form and upload a selfie to help the photographers match your portrait proofs to your account. Note, you will need to do this for every ceremony you participate in.
