BME approved accelerated MS classes

4+1 BS to MS approved classes

To help accelerate progress towards the M.S. degree, up to 12 credits of graduate level coursework (500-level or above) taken during a student's undergraduate degree can be transferred to the M.S. degree. The student may use up to 6 of those credits (i.e., two courses) to satisfy degree requirements in both their undergraduate and graduate programs. These “double counted” courses will be from the below list of approved classes  Additionally, a student may take up to 6 credits of independent study over the summer after their senior year working with a faculty advisor.

BME-approved 4+1 Accelerated MS classes

  • Clinical Orthopedics for Engineers (BME 501/601)
  • Drug Delivery (BME 502/602)
  • Biomedical Imaging (BME 503/603)
  • Intro to Gene Therapy (BME 504/604)
  • Biotransport (BME 505/605)
  • Intro to Biophotonics (BME 508/608)
  • Tissue Engineering (BME 510/610)
  • Immunoengineering (BME 511/611)
  • Intro to Force Spectroscopy (BME 512/612)
  • Frontiers of Bioelectronics (BME 513)
  • Biosensing: Fundamentals & Applications (BME 514/614)
  • Nature’s Materials (BME 575/675)
  • Medical Physiology & Anatomy (BME 651)*
  • Advanced Cell & Tissue Biomanufacturing (MIE 667)
  • Fundamentals of Sensors Science and Technology (MIE 619)
  • Advanced Materials Characterization: Microscopy (MIE 611)
  • Connections in Medicine, Biology and Engineering (MIE 658)
  • Practical Medical Device Design (MIE 687)

    * only applicable to the MS program, not BS technical electives

A potential sequence of courses for an accelerated M.S. student would be as follows:
