Definition of College Point Person in Academic Integrity Process
Purpose
Per Appendix G of the University of Massachusetts Academic Integrity Policy (Academic Integrity Appendices : Faculty Senate : UMass Amherst): A College point person is assigned within the college and has defined responsibilities. This is to be an Associate Dean with the work assigned by the College Dean.
The Riccio College of Engineering defines the following responsibilities among the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs Planning and Operations, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Affairs, Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Affairs, and course instructors.
Academic Integrity policies, guidelines and procedures are defined in the following documents and resources:

Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, Planning and Operations
- College point person per Appendix G definition (Academic Integrity Appendices: Faculty Senate: UMass Amherst) unless directly assigned to another Associate Dean below.
- Responsibility to be familiar with the Academic Integrity policies, guidelines and procedures
- When requested by any parties below (Associated Deans or Instructors), act as the point of contact with the Faculty Senate and/or Academic Integrity Office to obtain clarifications of policies, guidelines and procedures.
- Primary contact for faculty.
- When requested, guide instructors through academic integrity process.
- Represent faculty in the academic integrity process for cases where required. The primary responsibility for identifying, documenting, and pursuing academic integrity case resolution, whether informal or formal, lies with the course instructor (see below).
- For cases where graduate students are serving as the course instructor, see the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Affairs section for guidance.
Associate Dean for Undergraduate Affairs
- Responsibility to be familiar with the Academic Integrity policies, guidelines and procedures
- Mediate any cases between a student and instructor that cannot be resolved between the two parties as relates to undergraduate classes and/or students.
- Primary contact for undergraduate students regarding questions of process.
- Secondary contact for instructors regarding questions of process as relates to undergraduate classes or students.
- When an incident involves both undergraduate and graduate students the Associate Deans for Undergraduate Affairs and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Affairs will decide on a primary or co-led contact.
Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Affairs
- Responsibility to be familiar with the Academic Integrity policies, guidelines and procedures
- Mediate any cases between a student and instructor that cannot be resolved between the two parties as relates to graduate classes or students.
- Primary contact for graduate students regarding questions of process.
- Secondary contact for instructors regarding questions of process as relates to graduate classes or students.
- When an incident involves both undergraduate and graduate students the Associate Deans for Undergraduate Affairs and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Affairs will decide on a primary or co-led contact.
- College point person - In cases where a graduate student is the instructor for a course, the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Affairs will be the college point person for the instructor.
Course Instructor
- Instructors have responsibility to be familiar with the Academic Integrity policies, guidelines and procedures. Associate Dean contacts above are available to assist, clarify definitions, and mediate per roles defined above.
- Instructors shall pursue all verifiable violations of the academic integrity policies through informal resolution or formal charge, with consultation and/or assistance from the College point person, as appropriate.
- Per academic integrity policy, no grades for a class, final or for individual assignments or exams/quizzes shall be modified without a final resolution to an academic integrity infringement which approves this change. In most cases this is resolved through an informal resolution, sometimes mediated per the responsibilities defined above.
