Curriculum for Certificate in Aerospace Engineering
A 15-credit undergraduate certificate to provide students in the College of Engineering the knowledge, skills, and experiential learning opportunities to pursue careers and/or graduate studies in aerospace-related fields. All engineering undergraduates are eligible to participate in the program. Five courses (15 credits) must be completed to earn certificate.
The program has three major components: 1) Required Courses; 2) Foundational courses; 3) Elective courses as detailed below.
- Required Courses: Students will need to enroll in the two courses required below:
- MIE 340 - Fluid Mechanics or ChE 330 - Fluid Mechanics or CEE 357 - Elementary Fluid Mechanics
- MIE 444 - Mechanical Engineering Automatic Controls or ECE 580/MIE 510 - Feedback Control Systems or ChE 446 - Process Control
- Foundational Courses: Students will need to enroll in two of the three foundational courses below:
- MIE 440 – Aerospace Fluid Mechanics
- MIE 442 – Propulsion Systems Performance, Analysis & Design
- MIE 444 – Aerospace Structures [New]
- Elective Courses: Students will need to enroll in one elective course from the list below. Note that taking a third course from the Foundational Courses would also satisfy the elective requirement.
- MIE 441 – Internal Combustion Engines
- MIE 485 – Vibrations or CEE541 Structural Dynamics
- MIE 443 – Mechatronics
- MIE 510 – Feedback Control Systems
- MIE 579/ChE 579 – Advanced Materials Engineering
- ChE 571 – Physical and Chemical Processing of Materials
- ECE 565 – Digital Signal Processing
- ECE 580 – Feedback Control Systems
- ECE 584 – Microwave Engineering
No more than two courses used to fulfill the requirements of any one credential may be applied towards the fulfillment of another credential, wherein “credential” is defined as an academic degree program: major, minor, or certificate.
