College of Engineering Rises in National Rankings

In the U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 rankings, the UMass Amherst College of Engineering has been ranked the #57 overall best undergraduate engineering program in the country. The college shares this rank with Tufts University, the University of North Carolina, and six other institutions in a nine-way tie. This ranking represents a rise from last year, when the college was ranked #61.
The college is ranked #30 among public universities and remains the #1 public program in New England. Notably, the college is now ranked in the top 30 for both undergraduate and graduate public engineering programs.
The U.S. News & World Report’s Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs ranking is based on the evaluations of deans and senior faculty at accredited peer institutions.
At the campus level, UMass Amherst has maintained its standing as one of the nation’s leading public universities, ranking #26 out of the 227 public universities evaluated in the 2025 U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges Guide, rising six spots from last year. UMass Amherst climbed nine spots from last year to #58 among all 434 national universities.
