  2. Declare a Major in Engineering

Change of Major into Engineering – for students who entered UMass in Spring 2026 or before

Requirements for students to transfer into the Riccio College of Engineering:

  • A cumulative GPA of a 2.0 or better
  • A most recent semester (Fall or Spring, not Winter or Summer) GPA of a 2.0 or better
  • C or better in Math 131, ENGLWRIT 112, and either Chem 111 or Physics 151 (AP credit or transfer credit can be used for ENGLWRIT 112, Chem 111, and/or Physics 151; if AP credit or transfer credit exists for Math 131, then a C or better is required for Math 132)
  • Pass/Fail cannot be used for any of the above courses
  • Students must apply and be admitted to the Riccio College of Engineering no later than their fourth semester at UMass.  Please note that they should be taking Engineering courses BEFORE this to stay on track to graduate within four or five years.  They should also be consulting with an engineering advisor regularly about their progress.
