Field Experience Concentrations in MIE

Feld experience concentrations are available through the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering within the following MS degree programs:

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • MS in Industrial Engineering
  • MS in Engineering Management

The concentration allows students to focus their MS degree on practical application, both inside the classroom through project-heavy courses and far from campus on internships, co-ops or practicum opportunities. After just one semester on campus, students can apply their skills and gain invaluable practical experience in industry or government agencies. The Career Services office will work with students to find suitable opportunities.

Field Concentration in Mechanical Engineering

This field experience concentration provides students the opportunity to work on internships or co-ops after just one semester on campus and get the practical training that will prepare them to join the industry after graduation. The concentration has three requirements beyond those of the MS degree in Mechanical Engineering:

  1. Within the first three semesters of joining the MSME program, students conduct a field experience, which can be an internship, co-op, or practicum at an industrial company, government agency, or similar entity.
  2. Before the field experience, students must complete at least three ME courses two of which must be at least at the 600-level.
  3. After the field experience, students must take at least one course that has a major project component. A list of suitable courses will be provided to students every semester.

Field Concentration in Industrial Engineering
